Environment

The Green Party recognises that our quality of life is underpinned by the health of our unique ecosystems - from mountain tops to seashore, braided river to ocean floor. Ecosystems and species, including ourselves, form an intricate, interconnected web of life which is a treasure in its own right. The web of life contributes to the food we eat and materials we use, the quality of our water and soils, the moderation of climate, and ultimately the ability of our environment to support all life.

Farming Green: Not an Oxymoron

I want to start by setting out the substantial areas of common ground I believe we have.

First, that food production is hugely important and valuable – both because it provides the largest part of NZ’s livelihood in the world economy, and because we live in a hungry world. There is no doubt that pressures to feed an expanding world population will increase.

Green change we need

I greet you on a most auspicious day.

It is auspicious as a day of sadness because it is three years since we lost our friend and co-leader Rod Donald. Rod loved election campaigns and I’m sure he would’ve loved this one because the Greens time has come and the Greens will do well this Saturday.

Farmer bulldozes through RMA and native forest

In response to Federated Farmers demand to weaken the Resource Management Act, the Green Party has released leaked information showing the RMA is already so weak a council was able to rubber stamp the secret clearance of 100 year old native bush for dairying in south Taranaki.

Greens clean up in environment poll

The Green Party’s huge lead in a major environmental poll gives a clear indication of where we stand on environmental issue - out in front by a long way, Green Party’s Conservation Spokesperson Metiria Turei says.

Environment pivotal in Green Party tourism policy

The Green Party’s new tourism policy – launched today – will ensure New Zealand lives up to its clean green image and provides sustainable tourism for both domestic and international visitors.
