Transport lies at the heart of so many other issues; climate change, urban planning, rural economies and food production to mention a few. A Green approach to transport focuses on restoring a heart to our towns and cities and connecting local communities. We need to start adapting the success stories from around the world to New Zealand. Smart cities and towns in Europe and South America prosper because they have good public transport and quality walking and cycling facilities, along with lower rates of accidents and injuries compared to New Zealand. Rail and coastal shipping also offer greater energy efficiency and safety than road freight. Public demonstration against the planned Basin Reserve flyover (Wellington)

Despite public consultation urging against the Basin Reserve flyover, the Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) has recently agreed on plans that would see construction begin in 2011/12. Of the submissions received by the GWRC regarding the flyover, 79% did not support its construction. We need YOU to show the Greater Wellington Regional Council that we have a VOICE and that their decision does not reflect OUR vision for the future.
